Gee Vicki, I'd make a great politician...I never answered your question! I'm "paid" to assist 6th & 5th grade, but being the only literacy coach in the district, I gladly extend a helping hand across the district whenever or wherever needed.
You certainly make revision manageable and dare I say that f word...fun! I'll be sure to post some student work to your page. Being a NWP person, I've followed your work from some time. It truly has helped us have meaningful conversations about writing. Providing the students with trait specific feedback moves writing in a remarkable way.
Giving back to the rural school district I grew up in has been more than rewarding. Not only do I get to work with people who once were my teachers, I'm also surrounded by friends, neighbors, and children that I've known most of my life or theirs. I'm in a vacuum where I live...pretty far away from city life, but I've latched on- more like grabbed a leg and would not let go- of some amazing mentors over the last 15 years. Collaboration and networking has been instrumental in my own personal growth and as a result, the challenges we all face as educators don't seem as scary when you have support and lots of brains to help you!
I was first introduced to your work through the PA writing and Lit project. I used the nine rights for a teachers as writers club I host in my district. That book is dead honest. Thanks for the honesty. G
Vicki,
Your work has given our district common language (k-12) to discuss writing. It's difficult to put into words the impact this has made on students and teachers. I'll send you a student sample or two (writing stemmed from WriteTrait lesson) for you to enjoy!
Here is a place to share ideas that transform students into lifelong writers and help them succeed on any writing test, including STAAR. Download lessons from Barry Lane, Gretchen Bernabei and Alana Morris to add to your tool box. See More
