Thank you. This is my first "social network." We'll see how I do. I will share a comment about how I helped our 4th graders write a 2 page essay for the state test. In December much of a new teacher's class wrote a half page on a simulation test, so I went in to help her after Christmas. I thought about how hard it would be for me to write a rough draft that ended up 2 pages long. How could I plan for that? What I did was have the students "story board" the events in their story by sketching 3 (or 4) events and jotting some notes beneath each frame. Then they wrote 3 lead possibilities. They picked their best lead and wrote a paragraph. Then they indented and wrote a paragraph about each scene they sketched. Finally, we began to understand how to watch for the end of the page and write a conclusion. We wove many mini lessons into that teaching, but it seemed to really help our class. Everyone's first effort got 1 and a half pages of focused writing. The side benefit was that they understood paragraphing better.

Here is a place to post your Wacky We-search Reports. Post each report as a new discussion, or if you are a teacher you can post similar reports in the same blog ie: Drug Ads etc.. Can't wait to see all the examples.See More
