Ken, you are correct! I had bought The Schwa Was Here at our school's book sale and when I saw the sequel in our library I scooped it up to read.

Trisha -- I think Antsy Does Time is a sequel to The Schwa Was Here, isn't it? I enjoyed the Schwa book quite a bit last year. Quirky is a good word for it.

Vicki -- As for Knucklehead, I remember reading the review in the NYTimes Book Review. Growing up with three brothers (and zilch sisters), I said, "This may be the book for me!"

I just finished one of my favorite books in a long while--Knucklehead by Jon Scieszka (and I'm really proud of myself that I can type his name without looking--it's a lot harder to memorize than, say, Barry Lane). The book is Scieszka's truelife accounts of growing up as one of six brothers, and it's pretty hilarious--especially when he gets into trouble in school.

I just finished reading a YA novel Ansty Does Time by Neal Shusterman. It's the second book of his that I have read. Both books are quirky and have great stories. I like the chapter titles the best.

Just finished "The Luxe" It is the first book in a series. It is an interesting piece. Twist at the ending should keep middle school kids wanting more. The size might put some kids off--but it is a relatively easy read.

I have read the Twilight series three times so far since December. Some teacher friends of mine got me hooked on it. I absolutely love it. There is also a rough draft of her next book on her web site. I can't wait for that one to be published.

I'm reading the Twilight series. Several of my students love it and want to discuss it. And, of course, I don't want to be left out of the loop.

Major part of the "Christian genre" but also remarkably repetitious so I'd suggest just skimming the first book. Another 'new' genre is "bonnet books" set in Amish territory with Amish characters, a subset of Christian/Inspirational Romance, I think. There are a copule of prolific authors--check out the article in a recent Time magazine. I hadn't really come across any of these until I retired and volunteered to sort donations for my local library's book sale...and we get a ton of both genre, mostly paperback. I admit I haven't been able to read any of them, writing seems awkward and lacks style, but have skimmed a few.

Left Behind? Isn't that part of the "Christian genre"? Or so I thought...

OK, so I'm feeling totally out of the loop. A friend recently told me about a genre of books I'd never heard of, maybe because I'm so immersed in school. He was astounded that I hadn't heard of this. Now I feel compelled to read at least one. Anyone here know about the Left Behind books? Got any reccomendations?
