I am angry with myself for choosing this discussion. How can I choose a favorite Shakespeare character? But, if I must... ergh... here is a list of my favorites:

Mercutio -- Romeo & Juliet
Hamlet -- Hamlet
Falstaff -- a few of the histories
Puck -- A Midsummer Night's Dream
Oberon -- A Midsummer Night's Dream (I had the pleasure of playing him in an adapted version of the play)
Iago -- Othello (terrible, terrible man, but everybody loves a good villain)
Rosencrantz and Gildenstern -- Hamlet

Can you do it? Choose your favorite Shakespeare characters.

Can I have "greasy Joan" as my favourite character?
She features in his poem "Winter":
"...And greasy Joan doth keel the pot."
I don't know how you keel a pot.
There are some fantastic lines and all the characters are vivid and seem there in the room with you. Or you in the room with them...
"...And Marian's nose looks red and raw;
When roasted crabs hiss in the bowl- "
It's just that feeling it gives of coming into the warmth, of food being prepared by familiar friends and workmates.
Absolutely brilliant stuff.
Cheers
