New Found Land (Candlewick Press, 2004) is a multi-voice YA historical verse novel narrated by fourteen different members of the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804. Merriwether Lewis' Newfoundland dog provides the main narrative glue in intermittent passages of prose. While the various stories are interwoven into one cohesive tale, ach character (a real historical person) is on his or her own personal voyage of discovery.

Love the new cover, Allan,

Your book is a masterpiece of epic poetry. You are like Homer with eyes. Dante without Virgil. Hallmark without the stupid rhymes. Hey that would actually be a fun assignment. Re-write the book in Hallmark poems.

Roses are red
Violets are blie
I found the Missouri
in a dugout canoe
for YOU

I hope middle school social studies teachers start using this book to bring history alive.
Oh, Barry. That was a real stinker. You are a genius.

This book sounds very interesting. Allan, is it still available?
Yes. It's still out in both hard cover and paper. Huzzah! I also have a curriculum guide for it on my website at http://www.allanwolf.com on the Teachers page.

Allan,

If you can post a link to your website in the top part near the book cover. I'm sure other folks will want to know where to get the book.

I checked out your website, and now I want to own ALLLL your books! Why haven't I heard about you before? I'll head down to Sam Weller's or King's English (both independent book sellers) and see if they can make me a deal. After all, I am a poor educator. (That doesn't mean what it says - I'm an educator with no money, Honey!)
Honey you don't have to tell me about being strapped for cash. Since you are an educator you may be interested in my book for young writers, IMMERSED IN VERSE: AN INFORMATIVE, SLIGHTLY IRREVERENT & TOTALLY TREMENDOUS GUIDE FOR LIVING THE POET'S LIFE. I have actually been to Utah. To the town of Price when they were doing a Community Read of NEW FOUND LAND. I got to visit the amazing dinosaur museum there!! Beautiful country.
