Trisha, a few years ago I also did a poetry book with my 5th graders. We presented copies to our principal and vice-principal. The books were terrific. I hope to do something similar next year when I have 1st graders.

Our last unit of study for the year incorporated historical fiction, research and informative writing. Because I love technology, I took it a step further and had students created videos/psa's with a human rights theme. The last two days in my class we had a video viewing festival. We watched the videos created by groups in both of my 6th grade PreAP classes. I just happened to go to a party store a few days before and found all kinds of inexpensive Hollywood themed decorations, so I deocrated my room and even had a red carpet for them to walk in on. The kids had so much fun - and I loved it!!! It was a great way to end my year.
